They are home to national laboratories. There are a few other National Labs, but those 3 have had a high concentration of federal and private funding for varied and high-tech research, including energy, chemical processing, mechanical systems, nuclear power, and electronics since World War II. Would you want to climb over those? About 150 years into the first settlements some brave peeps went over and came into French Territory. ouch. Better to stay by the river than to cross them. Those rivers are huge!!! But later it became a way of transportation!!! They lived more towards the south because it was warmer and had more rain. Better for farming. did i help?
